Mr Cunningham visits Endeavour River
29th June 1819
On this day, 29th June 1819, Allan Cunningham visits Endeavour River while accompanying Phillip Parker King on his second circumnavigation to survey coastal Australia onboard HMS Mermaid.
Robert Heward wrote:
after an intricate and somewhat perilous navigation among the innumerable reefs that line the eastern coast of New Holland, they reached Endeavour River; anchoring, in all probability, on the same spot where Captain Cook and Sir Joseph Banks had done so, forty-nine years ago. 1
